In 1984, Mary and Peter Gregory created a haven...safe and tranquil...for old, abused and abandoned horses. Mill Creek Farm in Alachua, situated halfway between Gainesville and Lake City in north central Florida, offers hundreds of acres of serene, tree-studded rolling pastures allowing horses to roam freely, where they are never worked or ridden again. Enclosed by rustic curving wooden fences, horses at Mill Creek farm live with care and attention...and die...in peace and dignity. Many of the horses were saved by equine rescue organizations. Mill Creek Farm gives them the chance to live their last years in peace and tranquility. Bristol was saved from starvation by the Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals; Winny was found emaciated when seized by the Broward County Sheriff Department; Buckshot, a crippled buckskin, was saved from slaughter; Wendy was smuggled out of an experimental program the night before she was to be destroyed. These horses, and over 100 others, now receive individual attention with feeding, grooming and veterinary care.
